Leinster AIG Senior Cup for Carton House; Warrenpoint retain AIG Barton Shield in Ulster

Carton House beat Laytown and Bettystown 3.5-1.5 to claim the Leinster title in the AIG Senior Cup and qualify for next month's All Ireland Finals on home turf.

The Kildare men beat Kilkenny 4-1 in Saturday morning's quarter-finals at Malahide, then defeated Newlands 3.5-1.5 in the semi-finals before going on to take the Leinster pennant.

Laytown and Bettystown overcame Royal Dublin 4-1 and Birr 4.5-0.5 to reach the final. But while Jack McDonnell beat Des Morgan 5 and 4, Carton House were the far stronger side.

Gary McDermott beat David Foy 7 and 6 and former professional Paul O'Hanlon defeated Eugene Smith 4 and 3 before Jack Doherty beat Cian Geraghty by one hole to get them over the line.

Colin Cunningham and Robbie Cannon halved their match and Carton House now join Connacht champions Galway, Munster winners Limerick and Ulster champions Royal Portrush in the AIG All Ireland Finals at Carton House from September 22-23.

Warrenpoint retain AIG Barton Shield in Ulster

Meanwhile, All Ireland champions Warrenpoint remain on course to retain the AIG Barton Shield after they beat Rosapenna by six holes the Ulster final at Moyola Park.

They beat Belvoir Park by six holes in the semi-finals as Rosapenna crept past St Patrick's by one hole.

With Jamie Fletcher unavailable after his Irish Close Championship win at Galway on Saturday, Paul Reavey and Stevie Coulter beat Rosapenna's Donal Boyle and Frank Casey Jnr by four holes before Colm Campbell and Ryan Gribben beat Enda Kennedy and Martin McDermott by two holes

Warrenpoint now join Connacht champions Galway, Leinster champions Castle and Munster winners Tralee at Carton House for next month’s All Ireland finals.
