County Louth's Thomas Mulligan fired three birdies in a 68 to catch leader Mark Power on six under par heading into Friday's final round of the Irish Boys Amateur Open at Castle.

A Leinster interprovincial. Mulligan dropped his only shot of the day at the par-five 16th as Kilkenny talent Power, who was two ahead at halfway, made one birdie and one bogey in a level par 70.

The leading duo are six strokes ahead of England's Taylor Stote on six under par with Ballyhaunis' Andrew Hickey and Newlands' Cameron Raymond tied for third on two over par.

The cut for the top 50 and ties fell at 14 over par 224 with Castle's Darragh Smith carding a super 69 featuring six birdies to make it on the mark.

Smith made a double bogey six at the 11th but he had three birdie twos on his card as well as three bogeys.
