With the BMW M2 being the new kid on the block and everyone calling it all sorts of names, the tuning market for it is bound to grow exponentially. Everyone wants to offer parts and kits for the new baby M and some serious competition is bound to show up. The guys from Shiftech are the latest to enter this exclusive club and they’re offering a couple of interesting upgrades.
According to them, their ECU tune can take the upgraded N55 3-liter straight-six mill up from the stock 370 HP to 401 HP in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, the torque figure goes up from 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) to 615 Nm (454 lb-ft), figures better even than what the M3/M4 duo can do. Of course, a dyno chart would’ve been nice to see for ourselves but I guess we’ll have to take their word for it for now.
And since the M2 can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds when fitted with the 7-speed DCT gearbox in standard guise, we imagine this upgraded version is even faster, by at least 0.2 seconds if you ask us. Unfortunately, we don’t have any official numbers as we assume no proper runs were done. What we do have though is an M Performance exhaust installed on the car in the video below.
Alongside it, the guys from Shiftech claim to have added one of their own innovations that goes by the name ‘Pop&Bang’. Having a name as suggestive as this, you probably already guessed what it’s supposed to do. And while we were reluctant at first about its actual usefulness, the way this M2 sounds is just about right in our book. Lastly, we have to mention that the top speed limiter has been taken up to 300 km/h (186 mph) even though unless you live next to an Autobahn, you probably won’t ever get the chance to test it out.
