1999 Techno Violet E36 BMW M3 ‘Vert for sale

Yesterday, we spoke about a brand-new BMW M3 Competition Package that was painted in an ultra rare Byzanz Metallic color. It’s a sort of bronze that really looked good and quite interesting. What was most interesting is that Byzanz Metallic was a rear custom color first introduced on the E36 BMW M3. That’s not entirely surprising, though, as the E36 was famous for having a lot of interesting colors. One of which was Techno Violet purple, a color that enthusiasts really love.

Which is exactly why we got a bit excited when we saw this 1999 E36 BMW M3 for sale, painted in that very color. Admittedly, it’s a convertible, which isn’t ideal for most enthusiasts. However, ‘verts can be fun in their own way and this E36 M3 Convertble looks like a lot of fun.

This specific car isn’t exactly perfect but it’s pretty close. There’s a small scratch here and there, but nothing crazy and, to be honest, nothing all the noticeable. The seller does say that there was some front end damage, thanks to a low-speed parking lot crash, but that it’s been repaired and it seems to have been repaired really well. The rest of the car looks very good and the paint everywhere else, other than where it was repaired, is said to be original.

The purple convertible has 134,000 miles on it, which isn’t great but it’s certainly not terrible for a car that’s 18 years old. Under its hood lies a 3.2 liter I6 engine, mated to a five-speed manual. While the North American E36 M3 is a bit slower, it’s still a fun car and one that should still be driven.

While convertibles aren’t the first choice of enthusiasts, this Techno Violet E36 BMW M3 Convertible is a very cool car and, at least at the moment, seems to be cheap. It’s currently up for auction on Bring-A-Trailer and, at the time of writing this, is only at $1,999, wit six days left on the bid. It will certainly go up in price in the coming days but we think it should stay reasonably low, considering the damage that was done and repaired.

If you’re looking for an interesting BMW M3, this Techno Violet E36 could be it.

{Friday Photo Bliss} Galveston Island

We rarely take long vacations far from home. They are expensive and it is difficult (and expensive) for Paul to find fill-in doctors for his eye clinic. So we are pros at planning little last-minute weekend holidays. I would rather take many mini-vacatations than one big vacation during the year.

Last weekend we decided to spend Saturday-Monday at Galveston Island. Thankfully it wasn't affected too badly by Hurricane Harvey.

There are so many amazing things to do in Galveston, especially for the history and nature buffs.

We went to the Undersea Warfare Center at Seawolf Park and explored a destroyer and submarine.

There are my sweeties on the destroyer.

For some reason I am always drawn to bathrooms on these old WW2 military ships.

The submarine is fully outfitted and has air-conditioning. You have to watch your head and knees, all of the doors inside are knee-knockers.

I asked one of the volunteers that worked there how the toilet flushed when they were underwater. He said he was new but would get back to me with that information.

He never did.

You get great views of tanker and container ships going to the Port of Houston. What a perfect day.

We also visited the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum. It sounds like it would be boring but I was surprised and had a great time and learned so much on our visit.

They put the kids to work.

Everyone always tells me they grow up too quickly...

Here are some of the drilling rigs waiting to be put to use.  They are oddly beautiful.

You also get a great view of the fishing and shrimp boats coming in. I couldn't stop singing this song and drove my family crazy!

We went to Katie's Seafood Market  right next to the boats and picked up some fresh-caught red snapper, flounder, and shrimp. They filleted the fish for us and we had a seafood feast for four for $35!

After all of that food we relaxed with a good book.

And once refreshed hit the mini-golf course. Imp got 2 holes-in-one!

But my favorite part about going to the beach is GOING TO THE BEACH.

The weather was perfect, warm and sunny.

The kids couldn't wait to hit the water.

And dig in the sand.

I was sitting in the shallow water instead of swimming since I saw a few jellyfish floating about.

The boys covered themselves in sand...

Do girls do this?

They also hit the surf with their mini-surf boards.

We watched this young man catch the biggest fish I have ever seen caught at any beach. I asked if I could take his photo and he posed like a professional model.

We saw lots of crabs on the beach. They made me hungry.

When we were out there enjoying nature at its finest we could see the Pleasure Pier in the distance. I couldn't help but think I would rather be on the beach than on man-made rides.

Sure, there are some jellyfish (and sharks even thought I didn't see them) in the water. So who needs roller-coasters to thrill you when you have nature trying to sting/bite/eat you up? ;-)

And we watched beautiful sunsets.

I love Galveston.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Build Your Perfect All-Era BMW

You see it all the time in sports, where analysts and broadcasters will talk about an all-era team, a team built from all of a certain franchise’s best players, regardless of era. So we thought we’d jump in on the party and do a sort of all-era team of our own, just with a BMWBLOG twist.

Basically, the idea is to create a single BMW, using parts from any Bavarian car of any era, ever. For example, if you really like the E46 body style but want an E30 M3 engine, F90 M5 xDrive and the interior of a G11 7 Series, that would be your all-era BMW.

I’ll go first, creating my very own all-era BMW and then you fine readers can follow suit.

To start with, I’m going to go with the body of a BMW 507. I mean, seriously, is there a prettier BMW in the history of the brand? It’s an achingly pretty car and I must have one. Not only is it gorgeous but it’s the sort of car that BMW has yet to make since. Every luxury convertible from the Bavarians since has been more performance oriented, whereas the 507 was about being gorgeous, over-engineered and just lovely. Performance wasn’t its main objective.

As far as its engine, I’d swap the 507’s stock V8 with another Bavarian V8. I’d go with the 4.9 liter, naturally-aspirated V8 from the E39 BMW M5. With just about 400 hp, it’s powerful but not overly so and it makes a great noise. It’s the perfect engine for a car like the 507, if you ask me. It would also get the six-speed manual from the E39 M5, as well.

It would remain rear-wheel drive, as the car gods intended and I wouldn’t even bother with a fancy diff, as the 507 isn’t about skids.

Inside, I actually wouldn’t change a thing from the stock 507. Its interior is still impressive today, as absolutely everything, from the sun visors to the door handles, is completely over-engineered to the point of madness. It’s spectacular and gorgeous. Although, I was tempted to pick the interior of the BMW Z8.

So that’s my all-era BMW. It represents some of the best from BMW in all of its 100 years. It packs its most beautiful body and interior with its best V8 and a level of engineering that no Bimmer has seen since. So what’s yours?

Power cuts it fine in Florida

Seamus Power

Seamus Power

Seamus Power dodged a bullet when he birdied the par-five 18th at Atlantic Beach Country Club to make the five-under cut on the mark in the Web.com Tour Championship and keep his PGA Tour card hopes alive.

The Tooraneena man, 30, needs to be inside the top 25 in The Finals 25 — the mini-money list compiled from the four Web.com Tour Finals — to regain full status for 2017-18.

Power was 19th in the list starting the week and while a grinding, one-under 70 on Friday leaves him 12 shots behind leader Sam Saunders, he is projected to fall four spots to 23rd given he is now tied for 55th place.

Power bogeyed his third hole, recovered with three straight birdies from the fifth, but then made a double-bogey five with a visit to the hazard at the par-three 15th before finishing with that birdie.

When he finished, he looked safe at five-under, but in the end, he only made it on the mark.

At least he made it.

Making the cut was crucial and Power knows he now needs to make a move up as far up the leaderboard as possible to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

As for Saunders, he followed his opening 59 with a second-round 66 to reach 17-under and take a two-shot lead into weekend play at the fourth and final Web.com Tour Finals event.

Saunders finished one spot ahead of Power at 129th in the FedEx Cup standings this season and was a tenuous 24th in The Finals 25 entering the week.

If he remains on top, he is projected to finish second in The Finals 25 an earn a strong PGA Tour card for next season

“It’s been a long time. I haven’t won anything out on the Web or the PGA Tour," said Saunders, who is a grandson of the late Arnold Palmer.

"I’ve had some close calls. I lost in a playoff on the PGA Tour. A couple of years ago I had a second in Utah, so it’s been close, but I need to get a win. I think the bottom line is I need to win a golf tournament.

"And obviously my goal at this point, being my fourth year on the PGA Tour, my goal is to win on the PGA Tour, but this is still a very big stage.

"These are the best players in the world. These are really, really good players out here. So, if I can win this golf tournament, then that 100 percent proves to me that I can win on the PGA Tour. More so than losing in a playoff out there.”

Lee Valley win AIG Minor Cup before darkness stops play at Malone

Mother nature was the big winner as darkness descended and left two thrilling finals hanging in the balance until this morning in the AIG Ladies Cups and Shields Finals at Malone.

Lee Valley were crowned AIG Minor Cup champions but Killarney, Roscommon, Carton House and Cahir Park will have to wait until today to find out if they have won an All Ireland pennant after a dramatic third day.

Both the AIG Senior Cup and Intermediate Cup finals were suspended until 10 am today due to lack of light as they headed down the 21st and 23rd holes respectively

As their Munster sisters were left in suspense, Lee Valley beat Mountbellew 4-1 to claim the Minor Cup and their third All Ireland in five years.

Wins for Rose Driscoll and Breda O’Callaghan left them on the brink before Deirdre Lee secured the win for the Cork club on the 19th.

“We’re absolutely thrilled, it could have gone either way right up until the end, it was an amazing contest,” said Lee Valley captain Angela Corcoran after the win.

"We have won two Intermediate Cups and now a Minor Cup in the last five years, it’s a huge honour for our 25-year-old club!”

In the AIG Intermediate Cup final, Carton House and Cahir Park were tied 2-2 and after both Patricia Browne and Ann McQuillan missed chances for victory at the 19th and 20th there was still no winner after four extra holes.

With rain falling in the gathering gloom, the managers agreed to suspend play and continue the match on the 23rd today.

It was just as dramatic in the AIG Senior Foursomes, which was deadlocked at 1-1 with the final match between Killarney's Rosemary and Paula Quinn and Roscommon's Eimear O'Donnell and Amy Arthur suspended after 20 holes.

Winners of the Irish Senior Cup in August, Killarney were aiming for their second national pennant of the year against a Roscommon side playing its first All-Ireland final.

But while Mary Sheehy and Fidelma O’Connor beat Sinead Benedetti and Mary Lalor by two holes to put Killarney ahead, Roscommon pair Ruth Lennon and Ciara Hereward-Ryan beat Deirdre Prendergast and Ann Moynihan-Rudden 5 and 3 to level the scores before the final match was suspended by darkness.

The day ended up as a major anti-climax for the supporters and spectators watching the tie holes and also for Connacht club Mountbellew, who went to Malone with hopes of a triple crown and came away empty-handed.

Following the Intermediate Cup side's defeat in the quarter-finals on Wednesday and yesterday's Minor Cup final defeat to Lee Valley, all hope rested their Challenge Cup team's semi-final clash with Fintona.

However, they went down 4-1 to the Tyrone ladies who now go on to face Malahide, who were 3.5-1.5 winners over Doneraile, in today's final.

In the AIG Junior Cup, Limerick beat Stackstown 3-2 and will face Athenry in today's final after the Galway club cruised to a 4-1 win over Royal Curragh.

In the AIG Junior Foursomes semi-finals, Ballykisteen beat Woodbrook 2-1 and now face Portumna, 3-0 winners over The Heath, for the coveted green pennant.

SPIED: BMW Z4 Roadster shows off Production-Ready headlights

Last summer, I drove the outgoing E89-generation BMW Z4 for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a very flawed but very likable car, one that is still capable of putting smiles on faces. But, let’s face it, it’s time for the E89 Z4 to be put down. Out with the old, in with the new. Taking its place will be the upcoming G29-gen BMW Z4 and it should be a better car. It’s built on a new, better chassis, has better engines and will be significantly lighter, thanks to the new car ditching the heavy folding metal roof for a more traditional soft-top. So, naturally, we’re excited about the upcoming Z4. Some spy photos have recently surfaced that give us another glimpse at the newest Bavarian roadster and we get to see some production-ready headlights (we don’t own the spy photos, but they can be seen here).

While you might be thinking, “Nico, why should we care about spy photos that show us almost the same thing we’ve been seeing for a year?”, I implore you to go and check them out so you can spot something interesting, as the headlights have seemingly changed from the other Z4 pre-production cars we’ve seen before. Typically, BMW headlights have always featured some version of a two-circle, horizontal design. Recently, they’ve become more angular but the idea remains. However, this new BMW Z4 seems to have a slightly different take, one from a very interesting concept.

Looking at the headlights in the spy photos, we can only see the bottom portion of them, as the top is still covered in camouflage. In that bottom portion, there is only one “circle” and not two. At first, you might think BMW may have ditched the two-circle design and just gone with one. Until you look at the BMW Z4 Concept and realize that it has similar headlights and the two “circles” are actually vertical and not horizontal. So the new BMW Z4 will have the same sort headlights from the stunning Z4 Concept.

This is a very encouraging sign, as the new BMW Z4 Concept is possibly the prettiest from the Bavarians in a very long time. We can’t wait to see the new BMW Z4 Roadster uncovered and on the road. We’re even more impatient to drive it.
