Yesterday, we spoke about a brand-new BMW M3 Competition Package that was painted in an ultra rare Byzanz Metallic color. It’s a sort of bronze that really looked good and quite interesting. What was most interesting is that Byzanz Metallic was a rear custom color first introduced on the E36 BMW M3. That’s not entirely surprising, though, as the E36 was famous for having a lot of interesting colors. One of which was Techno Violet purple, a color that enthusiasts really love.
Which is exactly why we got a bit excited when we saw this 1999 E36 BMW M3 for sale, painted in that very color. Admittedly, it’s a convertible, which isn’t ideal for most enthusiasts. However, ‘verts can be fun in their own way and this E36 M3 Convertble looks like a lot of fun.
This specific car isn’t exactly perfect but it’s pretty close. There’s a small scratch here and there, but nothing crazy and, to be honest, nothing all the noticeable. The seller does say that there was some front end damage, thanks to a low-speed parking lot crash, but that it’s been repaired and it seems to have been repaired really well. The rest of the car looks very good and the paint everywhere else, other than where it was repaired, is said to be original.
The purple convertible has 134,000 miles on it, which isn’t great but it’s certainly not terrible for a car that’s 18 years old. Under its hood lies a 3.2 liter I6 engine, mated to a five-speed manual. While the North American E36 M3 is a bit slower, it’s still a fun car and one that should still be driven.
While convertibles aren’t the first choice of enthusiasts, this Techno Violet E36 BMW M3 Convertible is a very cool car and, at least at the moment, seems to be cheap. It’s currently up for auction on Bring-A-Trailer and, at the time of writing this, is only at $1,999, wit six days left on the bid. It will certainly go up in price in the coming days but we think it should stay reasonably low, considering the damage that was done and repaired.
If you’re looking for an interesting BMW M3, this Techno Violet E36 could be it.
