Seamus Power eagles the 18th in last month's Barracuda Championship in Reno
Seamus Power closed with a double-bogey six but still shot a third round 69 to share ninth place heading into the final round of the DAP Championship in Ohio - the third of four events in the Web.com Finals.
Bidding to regain full PGA Tour status via the four-event series by finishing in the top 25 money winners, he was projected to move up seven places to 12th on the money list despite his late mistake.
At five-under par, Power is four shots behind Nicholas Lindheim (68) and Matt Atkins (69), who lead by two strokes from Matt Harmon (67), Joel Dahmen (68), Chesson Hadley (68) and Shawn Stefani (69) at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood.
Atkins and Hadley are among the 25 players who have already earned his PGA Tour card via the top 25 on the Web.com Tour's regular-season money list but can improve their position in the pecking order via the Finals.
The Web.com Tour Finals offer players who finished in the top 75 on the second tier tour, plus those who finished between 126th and 200th on the PGA Tour's FedExCup money list, the chance to either improve their status or win full exemptions.
Web.com Tour Finals - Format explained
If Power falls outside the top 25 after next week's final event of the Web.com Tour Finals — the Web.com Tour Championship in Atlantic Beach in Florida— he will be placed in the Nos. 126-150 category which comes after the 50 players receiving their cards via the Web.com Tour or the Web.com Tour Finals.
While he still expects to get some 15 PGA Tour starts next year (mainly in the smaller events), a good performance in the Finals would leave him in a similar position to 12 months ago.
Power played 25 events on the PGA Tour this season, making 19 cuts and recording one top-10, four top-25s as he earned $646,180 and finished 130th in the FedExCup Points List.
