I have been MIA most of the week here on my blog because it is my birthday week. It has been a great week with a dinner-date with Paul (the boys stayed at my parent's house one night), a family dinner with my parents, and allowing myself to relax without stressing out about all of the stuff I have to do in this house.
Of course, procrastination allows all of that stuff to pile up for later, but I am ok with that this week. I know I will never catch up anyway.
"Please let me in. Please, please, please let me in. Sure, I will ask to go out in five minutes, but I have be let in at this very moment or I will just die."
Part of our homeschool life is me reading both a fiction and nonfiction book out loud to the boys. We are almost finished with "Watership Down" and are about a third in (affiliate link) "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth".
I think Col. Chris Hadfield's book should be a must-read for all children AND adults. Not only is it fascinating and easy reading with antidotes about Mr. Hadfield's life as an astronaut, but he shares the best life advice I have ever read.
I have been reducing the amount of my boys' video-game time and they are reading more! Boredom is a important tool in my homeschool tool-kit. I think it helps that they see me spending more time with books too. I have always been a bookworm, and it warms my heart to see my boys following in my path.
You can't spend all of your time with your nose stuck in a book. We had several inches of rain yesterday which resulted in some amazing rapids in our ditches. The boys made lego boats and had a contest to see which one floated the best. Imp won this battle.
Of course, once they finished outside they asked if they could play some video games. When I said no, Duke told me it had been five days since they had played any. I congratulated him on his amazing counting skills. No wonder my kids have such a sarcastic wit, they learned it from their mom... ;-)
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!
