Just the other day we showed you a drag race between a BMW M2 and an Audi RS3 and the discussions and debates it started were definitely not anticipated by us. Some points were made that the RS3, being available only in hatch or sedan guise, isn’t a real rival for the M2 and that the Audi TT would be more of a match since it is also described as a ‘Coupe’.
Well, today we found a video of the same manual BMW M2 drag racing on the same strip, this time against an Audi TT S. However, unlike last time, this race wouldn’t be considered fair either because we’re not dealing with an RS model here but with a lesser, S version of the stylish Audi model.
What that means is that under its hood hides only a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged mill making 310 PS and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. Those figures coupled with the all-wheel drive system sending power to all four corners of the car means that you can reach 62 mph from standstill in 4.6 seconds aboard a TT S Coupe.
On the other hand, the BMW M2 comes equipped with a 3-liter straight six mill making 370 PS and 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque as standard, the torque going up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) for short periods of time with overboost. This being a manual, RWD coupe it will reach 62 mph from standstill in 4.5 seconds, which is pretty close to the Audi as well.
It’s worth mentioning that this is not a standing start race, instead the cars setting off from a roll. That nullifies the advantage brought on by the AWD system of the Audi and therefore, moves all the focus on horsepower. This is also why the BMW seems to be going for a walk in the park and not break a sweat. All we need to see now is a drag race with a 400 HP Audi TT RS, the proper rival from Ingolstadt for the BMW M2.
