Irish Professional champion Damien McGrane and Irish international Conor O'Rourke rounded off a successful 2016 by picking up prizes in the final Tuesday Winter Series outing at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.
McGrane, winner of the Irish Region Order of Merit and this year Irish PGA at Moyvalley, fired a three under 68 to win the nett by four strokes from Galgorm Castle’s Michael Dallat and by five from Halpenny Golf’s Steven Quinlan as 66 players braved the cold December weather at the north Dublin links.
Naas star O’Rourke, who broke into the big time in the amateur game this year with his in in the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy in June, shot a level par 71 to win the gross by a stroke from Headfort assistant professional Joe Dillon with Birr native Stephen Grant third with a 74
O’Rourke played in the Irish team that won the Home Internationals for the third year running and went on to win the Nassau Invitational in New York.
