I always enjoy receiving comments and suggestions here and on my Facebook page. Last week I released a gorgeous new action called "Glacier Ice Lights" and one of my Facebook followers mentioned that it looked really beautiful on B&W images.
I was really excited to read this and decided to write a new version of the action specific for a tinted B&W effect. This action can be run on color or B&W images and every layer is completely adjustable and can be as dramatic or subtle as you want.
I hope you will have fun playing with it!
Original images used in this post (woman with sweater, deer, woman with flowers in field, bride, girl tossing her hair).
CoffeeShop "Glacier Ice Lights B&W" Photoshop/PSE Action Tutorial:
I ran "Glacier Ice Lights B&W" on the image and this is what it looks like without any adjustments. Free free to adjust each layer's opacity, turn off layers, or paint on the layer mask to selectivity add each enhancement layer.
If I turn off the "Glacier Ice Lights" layer it removes all of the blue haze. I love this type of dramatic B&W edit.
I wanted to add some light back to this image, so I turned on the "Glacier Ice Lights" layer back on and clicked to select its layer mask. I grabbed the gradient tool (G), made sure it was set to black to white, and then added it from the bottom left to top right as seen above.
Make sure you add the gradient to the layer mask, not the actual image!
Alternatively you can also paint on the layer mask with a soft black brush (any opacity) to selectively add back the light.
This adjustment allowed me to add some glowing light to the top right of the image. I turned down the opacity of this layer to 66%. I think this is so pretty.
