Video: Jaguar F-Type R Gets Ridiculed by V10 E30 M3 in Drag Race

Capture

Earlier today we showed you a BMW E30 M3 with a V10 engine that was up for grabs in Sweden. Lurking around on the internet, we also found a video of what this beast is capable of and we have to say, the $52,000 price tag of this car doesn’t seem like much anymore.

In the video below you’ll find a drag race that shows the M3 going up against a much more modern and more powerful car, represented by a 2016 Jaguar F-Type R. The Briton is fitted with the second most powerful engine you can get on a Jaguar, a 5-liter supercharged V8 that is capable of making 550 HP and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. In R guise, you can even get the F-Type with all-wheel drive which could be considered as an advantage in a drag race, if the cars start from a standstill.

However, this is not the case. The race was done from a rolling start and that clearly help the BMW here. The car has a 5-liter S85 V10 engine that puts out 535 HP and while it’s less than what the Jag makes, the E30 M3 is also considerably lighter, tipping the scale at 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs). Furthermore, the Bimmer doesn’t get to use fancy electronics or launch control since it’s fitted with a manual gearbox. Therefore, if the two would’ve launched from a standstill, getting grip in the first couple of yards would’ve been tricky for the BMW driver.

Even so, considering how much distance the M3 puts between it and the Jaguar, we reckon that even without launch control or some kind of electronic nannies keeping the car’s power in check, the BMW would win 9 times out of 10, and by long distances, as you can see in the video below.
