Video: Lamborghini Huracan Spyder Can’t Run from 720 HP BMW M5

Normally whenever someone talks about pitting the BMW M5 against a Lamborghini, the result seems rather obvious, no matter what generation we’re looking at. The BMW M5 is a legendary nameplate but, as a sedan, it isn’t supposed to keep up with proper supercars like Lamborghini makes. Nevertheless, the new F90 M5 is a proper land rocket in a straight line, despite its generous figure.

We’ve seen the M5 drag race some of the fastest sedans in the world right now but it didn’t take it up with a supercar so far until now. The footage below shows what is claimed to be a 720 HP BMW M5 taking on a stock Lamborghini Huracan Spyder. The Bavarian machine was apparently upgraded with a piggyback tune and gained some 20 percent more power. The Lambo is stock but considering it’s a supercar, things should be quite close.

The Huracan Spyder is a bit heavier than its fixed-roof brother. Even so, it tips the scale at just a tad bit over 1.5 tons (3,322 lbs) while the BMW is more than 350 kilos heavier. The numbers game goes all in favor of the Lambo if we’re looking at the standard spec – 631 HP, 5.2-liter V10, 3.1-second dash to 100 km/h and a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h). The BMW makes up for it though with that aforementioned tune.

Those extra 120 HP really seem to make a difference here and the Lambo just doesn’t seem to be able to keep up in a straight line, something we definitely didn’t expect to see. The uber-sedan puts in a great performance both from standstill and from a roll. And while all of this does look like fun we highly recommend you keep the racing to the track or maybe an abandoned airfield. Using a public highway for such purposes is not excusable in any way.
