BMW of North America is recalling approximately 2,600 model-year 2016-17 BMW M3 sedans, model-year 2016-17 M4 and M4 GTS coupes, and model-year 2017 M4 convertibles. The units were produced between March 2 and September 30, 201 – 1,456 units are M3 sedans, 936 M4 coupes and 269 M4 convertibles.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “The connection between the driveshaft and the flange may fail” on certain M3s and M4s, “resulting in a loss of propulsion” and a higher risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the driveshaft for free.
BMW will begin notifying owners Dec. 3. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
