Video: BMW M2 CS Caught Testing at the Nurburgring

The BMW M2 already has a great reputation among enthusiasts, be it the original version or the Competition model. It’s revered as the best car you can get in BMW’s line-up today, due to its compact size and great power output. The recipe was further improved with the BMW M2 Competition as it got the same 3-liter straight six engine from the M3 and M4 models, the S55. However, it looks like BMW is already testing an even better version, the M2 CS.

Just like it is the case with the M3 CS and M4 CS models, the upcoming enhanced M2 will most likely be lighter than ever and get a bit more oomph out of the engine bay. The car has been spotted out testing a couple of times already but BMW refuses to officially acknowledge its existence. The prototype in the footage below seems to be wearing a new splitter on the front bumper, and a spoiler on the top of the boot, for more downforce.

Other details are hard to distinguish because of the camera angle, but chances are the production model will be wearing a carbon fiber roof and get lighter, forged alloy wheels. Another possibility could be the introduction of carbon ceramic brakes as an optional feature, to improve braking and cut some more weight. Inside the cabin some weight cutting could also be done, maybe an armrest delete and new lightweight seats.

The biggest question will be just how much more power the M2 CS will get. The M2 Competition’s S55 engine develops 405 HP and that’s not even close to the real potential that mill has. On the CS the levels could go up to 415 HP but that’s not important. The focus will be on the handling and weight, not the added power, as BMW proved that’s the least of one’s worries when pushing a car to the limit.
