A special thanks to my husband Paul who flies the plane and edits all our videos. Please subscribe to his Texas Gooney Bird YouTube channel if you are interested in following our adventures. It would make his day!
When Hurricane Harvey was heading our way we were terrified. We weren't in the direct path where it hit as a Cat. 4 in Rockport, TX, but we were on the dirty side of the storm and the weather folks were predicting that it would head our way, stall, and drop over three feet of rain in some areas. This is a huge deal since Houston was built on a swamp and thus very flood-prone. And guess what, the weather folks were right. We had almost 30 inches at our house over several days and one part of town supposedly had over 50 inches, a record for the continental US.
Our house is not in the part of our subdivision in the flood plain (the photo above shows our neighbors' houses that are next to the creek), but almost any house in our area can flood if several feet of rain get dumped on it during a short amount of time. Thankfully our house was fine this storm, but last year our Gooney Bird hanger flooded thanks to the ten inches of rain we had one afternoon and we were really worried that this storm could potentially turn her into a boat.
Unfortunately we couldn't move our house out of Houston, but we could move our plane and have one less thing to worry about. But where do we move her? Could we end up not flooding here as badly as predicted but, ironically, send her off somewhere where she floods? ARGGGHHH!
I don't have many photos of this flying adventure since I was sick with a horrible coughing disease and was incredibly anxious, but my (hot) husband Paul made a video all about our Hurricane Harvey-Gooney Bird adventures and you can watch it below or via this link.
