Today we’re taking a look at rather peculiar comparison. It’s not only because the two cars going head to head are almost nothing alike but because the people reviewing them decided to call these luxurious super-fast monsters ‘winter beaters’. Now, I don’t know about you but when I think ‘winter beater’, a price tag of over $150,000 doesn’t really instantly pop up inside my head. But then again, I’m not the kind of person who can afford a BMW M760Li xDrive or a Porsche Panamera Turbo anyway.
Maybe the people who can afford these cars, truly buy them as winter beaters, to use when their fleets of Rolls-Royce models and Pagani Huayra supercars are resting during the colder months of the year. God forbid those cars would ever get salt on their shiny wheels or get stuck in snow. And while I may not agree with the fact that these two could ever be considered ‘beaters’ in any season, I can understand that some are so rich that they could ultimately consider them as such.
As for the other aspects that set these two apart, I’m rather lost for words. The BMW and Porsche are not alike in any way and even the guys and girls over at Autoguide ended up at the same conclusion, after taking them for a spin. From the different engines to the space offered inside and the way they handle, these things are nothing alike. Maybe in a straight line acceleration run they would match up but that’s only one side of the story.
Inevitably, the conclusion states that the Panamera is a ‘sportscar’ while the BMW is a great ‘executive sedan’. Furthermore, while the 7er does great in a straight line, the Panamera is better in the corners. Who would’ve thunk? That said, it’s still great to see these two cars being driven back to back, especially since an all-electric future seems to be right around the corner.
