The BMW Isetta is easily one of the quirkiest cars to ever come from Bavarian. Originally built by the Italian company, ISO, the BMW version of the Isetta 247cc one-cylinder engine that made a whopping 13 horsepowers. Although, the small and woefully underpowered engine allowed the Isetta to become the first car in the world to hit the 3 L/100 km (78 mpg US) mark. Which is impressive enough to help you forget that the Isetta struggles going up slanted driveways. However, now, there’s an even more fuel efficient Isetta, except it isn’t made by BMW. In fact, it’s made in China. And it’s electric.
To be completely honest, it’s not actually an Isetta, only heavily inspired by it. So it’s vaguely the same shape as the BMW Isetta and has a similar design to the Isetta 600. So it has four doors and is called the Eagle (no, not the GM-owned Eagle from the ’90s) EG6330K. A name that makes modern German letter/number bashing seem inspiring.

Rather than the tiny one-cylinder engine for the Isetta, the Eagle EG6330K comes with an electric motor mounted to the front axle that can five the little EV a blistering top speed of 60 km/h (37 mph). And thanks to a 72 kWh lead-acid battery, it gets about 70 miles of range. Lead-acid is an odd choice, as it’s heavy and antiquated but I guess it’s also cheaper.
And cheap it is. The Chinese company is claiming a price of around $4,000, which is the cost of some really nice TVs. Personally, I’d rather have the curved Samsung 4K OLED but this is pretty cool, too.
If you want a BMW Isetta, you’re probably better off just buying an Isetta, as it’s better looking (marginally), more interesting and probably more fun to drive. However, if you want really cheap electric transportation with really quirky looks, the Eagle EG6330K could be the car for you.
