Feel like James Bond in this bulletproof E38 BMW 750iL

Does anyone remember Tomorrow Never Dies, the Bond movie with Pierce Brosnan? If so, you’ll remember that he drove an E38-gen BMW 750iL and there’s a famous scene where he drives it remotely through a hail of gunfire, from the back seat, using a small tablet. It’s an absurd scene and it was always weird to see James Bond drive a 7 Series. But if you want to feel like that specific James Bond, take a look at this 2001 BMW 750iL Protection Package that’s currently for sale on Bring-A-Trailer.

The Protection Package was something you could order from the factory and it was intended for mafia bosses…err..diplomats, to keep them safe. If features bulletproof glass, armor plating, stationary rear windows, run-flat tires and self-leveling rear air suspension with electronically controlled dampers.

Under the hood lies a 5.4 liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine with 322 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque. That mighty V12 sends its power through a five-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. While that’s a good amount of power, the BMW 750iL Protection weighs about as much as a small moon, so it’s not exactly quick.

It also won’t handle all that well, despite the E38 7 Series being a brilliant driving car. The armored plating and all of its bulletproofing makes it too heavy to properly handle. Though, it will be fast enough and handle well enough to get away from some baddies with ill intentions.

This specific car is black on black, because of course it is, and only has 90,000 miles on it, which is pretty low mileage for a car that’s now 17 years old. I also seems to be in impeccable conditions, lacking any noticeable rust, damage or bullet holes. At the time of writing this, the current bid is at $8,000, which is pretty cheap for such a cool car.

If you buy this bulletproof BMW 750iL, you’ll have one of the greatest luxury cars BMW ever produced with the added bonus that if any Russian terrorists start firing AK47s at you, you’ll be alright. Just don’t try and drive it from the back seat, as that probably won’t end well.
