Video: 700 HP BMW M6 Drag Races Porsche 911 GT3

The BMW M6 Coupe might be out of production right now, but while we’re waiting for the M8 Coupe to come out to fill this void in the line-up, owners are still enjoying the big coupe in various ways. The S63 4.4-liter twin turbo engine under the hood of the M6 has a lot of potential as far as tuning goes and hitting the 700 HP mark is not an issue. The guys from Dinan are selling one of the best kits for the M car if you’re interested, one that seriously upgrades the performance.

The car in the video below is one such machine, fitted with the high-performance kit from the American tuner. We’ve seen it before taking on rivals from the same brand, like the M3 Competition Package or the Alpina B6, which may have a different name but is still a BMW underneath it all. This time around the M6 is going up against not one but two Porsche 911 GT3 models, of different generations.

If you’re not used to the Porsche way of doing things, you’ll probably have to squint really hard to spot the differences between the two cars, but one of them is a 991.1 GT3 while the other is a 991.2 version. That means there are a couple of interesting differences at play here. The older model has a 3.8-liter flat six engine under the hood good for 475 HP and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque going out to the wheels thanks to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The claimed 0-62 time sits at 3.5 seconds.

On the other hand, the newer model comes with a 4-liter engine making 500 HP and 460 Nm (340 lb-ft) of torque. The same 7-speed ultra-fast gearbox is used and the acceleration time drops by 0.1 seconds. Could the M6 beat them in a straight line? The extra horsepower will surely help but let’s not forget the M6 is also considerably heavier.
