You can now order an official camo wrap for your BMW X2

Months before the new X2 came out, BMW used a production vehicle as part of its marketing efforts that aimed to create some buzz around the latest and funkiest SAV. In one of those campaigns, the X2 made its appearance at the Milan Fashion Week, wearing an outfit perfect for the occasion.

The BMW X2 was attired in a spectacular camouflage effect, with tones of yellow, gray, and black that highlight its sporty and stylish qualities. The camouflage wrapping intentionally echoes the coloring of the pre-series prototypes.

The manufacturer and dealerships received increasing numbers of requests for this charismatic vehicle in precisely this coloring, so now the wrap can be purchased from the new Original Accessories catalog for the BMW X2. The “Digital Camo” wrapping features an interesting visual integration with the headlights. The classic dual circular elements of the LED daytime driving light and the fog lamps peer out of the camouflage like the eyes of a hunting predator.

In the equipment lines M Sport and M Sport X, the specific characteristic details are not affected: the wrapping does not cover the high-gloss attachment parts at the front and rear and the details in Frozen Grey.

The “Digital Camo” wrapping can be applied within four days. Prices and availability upon request in your local market.

North West's Kyle McCarron added a two-under 69 to his opening 68 to lead the qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the West of Ireland Championship at Rosses Point.

The 2014 Irish Youths champion mixed an eagle and four birdies with two bogeys and a double-bogey at the seventh to finish on five-under-par 137, edging out 2016 West of Ireland champion Jonathan Yates from Naas on a countback for the silver medal.

Yates also shot rounds of 68 and 69 but lost out to McCarron, whose birdie at the 18th decided the countback in his favour.

They finished a shot ahead of first-round leader Robin Dawson from Tramore, who could not repeat his first round form and followed his championship record 64 with a 74 to finish third on four-under.

The cut for the leading 64 who will tee it up in the first matchplay round today fell at eight-over 150 with Tandragee’s William Small edging out Baltinglass teenager Joseph Byrne for 64th on a countback after their 76s.

All eight members of the Irish panel made the matchplay with Irish Amateur Open champion Peter O’Keeffe from Douglas carding a best of the day 67 to finish on two-under.

Castle’s Peter McKeever shot 69 to finish fourth on three-under alongside two-time Irish Boys champion Mark Power (17), who posted a 72.

It was also a good day for McKeever's Castle clubmate Alex Gleeson, who shot 69 to qualify in eighth place on level par.

Palmerstown Stud's Anthony McDaid had a hole in one at the fourth in a 73 to qualify comfortably on 148.

The first round threw up some interesting matches with defending champion Barry Anderson taking on 2010 South of Ireland winner, John Greene with Power facing Paul O'Hanlon, the former professional who lost to Rory McIlroy in the 2006 final.

Butler then emerged victories when he produced three pars at the first, second and third as Galligan followed a birdie-par start with a six at the par-three third.

Overnight leader Ewan McArthur tied for ninth on 152.

Dawson finds record form with 64 at Rosses Point

Tramore’s Robin Dawson stamped his authority on the Radisson Blu sponsored West of Ireland Amateur Open when he fired a championship record equalling 64 to take a three-stroke lead after the first qualifying round at Rosses Point.

The Irish international (22) dropped just one stroke in a cold northeast breeze, blasting an eagle and six birdies in a seven-under-par round that equalled the 64 carded by Co Sligo’s David Brady in the first qualifying round in 2014.

“My preparation wasn't ideal but I eventually got into a rhythm,” said a delighted Dawson, who only returned to Ireland from a holiday in Australia last Wednesday following an intensive early season schedule that took him from Argentina to South Africa and Qatar.

“I actually played so badly in practice yesterday that I went to the range because I had no idea what was going on. But I found something this morning and away I went. I was nice to get a round under my belt.”

Dawson’s score didn’t count as a course record as the field did not play from the championship tees at the fifth or 10th.

Despite that, just ten players in the 126-strong field broke par and the cream rose to the top after the morning and afternoon waves had tackled the famed Co Sligo links.

Forrest Little’s Jack McDonnell (22) and Kilkenny’s Mark Power, the Irish Boys champion, are tied for second after four-under 67s with 2016 champion Jonathan Yates from Naas and North West’s Kyle McCarron posting 68s to share fourth spot.

McDonnell only flew home from Bristol late on Thursday night after an unsuccessful trip to the first stage of the PGA Europro Tour’s Qualifying School.

But like Dawson, he found poor preparation no impediment to good play as he made two eagles and five birdies in his 67, covering his last nine holes—the back nine as he started on the first—in just 30 blows.

“I went to the Q-School just to test the waters but didn’t get through and then my flight was delayed,” said McDonnell, who won the Munster Youths at Monkstown Golf Club.

“My plan is to play full-time golf this year and try and make the Irish team by finishing in the top-two in the new Bridgestone Order of Merit.”

The top three scores came in the afternoon and Power (17) showed his unquestionable talent by making seven birdies in his four-under-par round.

Dawson started at the 15th and after holing good putts for birdies at the 16th and 18th, he followed a three-putt bogey at the second with a birdie-birdie-eagle run from the third with his shot of the day a 210-yard two-iron to 10 feet at the fifth setting up an eagle three.

He then closed out his day in style, hitting a nine-iron to 15 feet at the downwind 11th to set up a birdie before chipping to a foot from the perfect spot left of the par-five 12th.

Rosslare’s Gary Collins shot a one-under 70 in the morning wave to share the lead with Laytown and Bettystown’s Cian Geraghty and Portmarnock’s John Greene.

The temperature rose for the afternoon starters but despite that, the average score was 74.92 with Irish Amateur Open champion Peter O’Keeffe and top international Alex Gleeson from Castle —who lost a ball at the 12th—carding two-over 73s.

Defending champion Barry Anderson shot a level par 71 in the morning and he’s hopeful that he can become the first man since Rory McIlroy in 2006 to retain the title.

“It’s nice to be here as defending champion to just enjoy it and try to match Rory and win it back to back,” the Rosses Point native said. “A 71 was the worst I could have shot because I hit the ball very well in that cold northeast wind but didn’t make many putts.”

The leading 64 players after today’s second round will qualify for the first round of matchplay tomorrow.

New BMW F90 M5 launches in the UK with a classy photoshoot

Just a few weeks ago, BMW UK hosted some British journalists and influencers at the launch of all-new BMW F90 M5. The car was tested on the track, through country backroads and even through snowy conditions. The F90 M5 has so far been received with enthusiasm by customers and the press, more recently Car and Driver recently tested the M5 on their own and recorded simply staggering results.

When launched properly, by left-footing the brake and revving it to 3,000 rpm, which will allow the rear wheels to spin while keeping the fronts locked, C&D recorded a 2.8 second 0-60 mph time. That time puts the BMW M5 ahead of the Tesla Model S P90D, making it the fastest sedan they’ve ever tested. It’s also faster than the Audi R8 V10 Plus (2.9 seconds), Nissan GT-R (2.9 seconds) and the Mercedes-AMG GT R (also 2.9 seconds).

Five Things You Learn After Driving the New BMW M5

Most BMW fans were quite angry with the M5’s switch from pure rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive. Pitchforks were sharpened, torches were lit and mobs were ready to riot when the new M5 lost its bite. However, they can pack those things up and go home, as it turns out the new M-specific xDrive all-wheel drive system absolutely does not ruin the fun. If anything, it increases the fun because it can help you go a lot faster and kick its tail out while keeping you safe.

The 2018 M5 features the newest version of BMW’s 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Now, it makes 600 hp on the nose and 553 lb-ft of torque. All of that fury is sent through an eight-speed ZF-sourced automatic that’s been specifically tuned for M5 duty. Top speed is electronically-limited to 155 mph. However, with an optional M Driver’s Package, that top speed increases to 189 mph.

The new high-performance sedan is now available for purchase in England at a base price of £89,645.
