The adventures of the 750 HP BMW M5 continue in Sweden. The car we’ve been writing about for a few weeks now has had its share of wins against rather unexpected rivals, like the Ferrari 458 Italia, for example. That was a drag race between a four-door midsize sedan and a proper supercar, albeit an older model. This time around, the M5 goes up against a more recent supercar, a McLaren 570S Coupe.
The 570S Coupe is almost the cheapest McLaren you can get today and yes, it comes up short when compared to the P1 on every level but, then again, this is a more down to earth model. Hence the cheaper price tag. The 570S is a supercar though, no matter what anyone tells you. Its main rival is the Porsche Turbo S and their performance figures are closer than you may expect.
The McLaren comes with a reworked version of the famous 3.8-liter V8 the Brits have put together for the P1 but tuned to make 570 HP and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, numbers considerably lower, of course. Its monocoque carbon fiber body means it’s light on its feet and it tips the scale at just 1,313 kg (2895 lbs). Couple that with the super-fast 7-speed gearbox and you get a McLaren capable of doing 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in 3.2 seconds.
On the other side of the drag strip we have a full-on midsize sedan with four doors and room for up to 5 people inside and their luggage in the boot. It uses a 4.4-liter V8 with two turbos and it has been tuned to make 750 HP apparently. It also comes with a 7-speed DCT gearbox which sends all the power to the rear wheels but the M5 also weighs about half a ton more than the McLaren. How will it fare? I can only tell you that with a different driver, things might’ve ended up vastly different.
