BMW UK and Nicki Shields team up again to give us a closer look at the new BMW 5 Series. Only this time around, the business sedan is joined by the new 5 Series Touring. The footage from London takes us around and inside the new sports wagon with just a few days before its world debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
The wagon shares most of its appearance with its sedan counterpart, including the larger headlights and the vent in the lower portion of the front fenders, so it comes with no surprise that the overall look is evolutionary. The rear window is raked more steeply, providing a lower, wider appearance than its predecessor. The tailgate is aluminum and has a separate opening rear window offering access to the larger cargo area. This makes loading or retrieving light items, like a shopping bag or two, from the trunk without having to open the power tailgate.
Not only is the new G30-generation 5 Series the best driving 5er since the E39-generation, but the Touring can pack 570 – 1,700 liters worth of trunk volume, depending on whether the rear seats are up or down, respectively.
Inside, we’re getting the beautiful design from the G30 5 Series. From premium materials to a plethora of standard options, the G31 5 Series Touring is far more advanced that its predecessor and inline with the offerings found in the flagship 7 Series.
From the latest iDrive generation with a tiled menu, touchscreen and gesture control to the HUD with a 70 percent larger projection area, the BMW 5 Series Touring also has the complete infotainment program on board. A fast WLAN hotspot for mobile devices, the finally functioning wireless CarPlay and the elegant possibility for inductive charging round off the modern program in terms of networking.
The 2017 BMW 530d Touring is the only G31 variant available at the market launch in June with both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive. The remaining models 530i, 540i and 520d are only available with one of the two concepts. In the course of the year 2017 additional variants will certainly be added and more drive diversity will be ensured.
