“The Driveway” features today BMW’s first and maybe last 3 Series Gran Turismo. The new GT made its debut three years ago in the 3 Series lineup, but the second generation is rumored to merge with the 4 Series Gran Coupe under an unspecified name. The 335i GT featured here today is the top of the line Gran Turismo model using the award-winning 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine producing 225 kW/306 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). Official numbers say that the 335i GT runs from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.4 seconds, while the fuel consumption is rated at 30.5 MPG (7.7 liters per 100 kilometers).
Not too shabby for a car that’s supposed fun and practical.
Name: Sean Senatore
Car (year/make/model): 2016 335i GT M-Sport
Time of Ownership: Lease
What made you buy it?: I previously came from a 2013 X3 35i M sport which was great, but I wanted more performance but yet still have practicality. The GT is amazing in terms of combining the 6 special things family drivers look for. 1) Performance 2) Handling 3) Ride Height 4) Hauling Cargo 5) Ride comfort (extended wheelbase) 6) Luxury
Things you like: I love the styling, which most people don’t, but with the 19″ rims, and the tinted windows, it really stands out in a good way.
Things you’d change: I would make the Sport+ setting much more aggressive in terms of ride stiffness and handling
Modifications Done: Active Autowerke Active8 tuning box producing an extra 60 wheel Hp and 60 ft trq and a Shiftek Catless Downpipe putting an extra 20/20 down on the dyno. The GT currently produces 350 wheel horsepower, up 70 over stock.
Any Adventures?: Took a 6 hours trip through beautiful New York and Pennsylvania to really push the car to its limits. Also took the car to the drag strip. I produced a stock figure of 13.8 @ 99mph seconds in the quarter mile( same as my X3) and I produced 13.1 seconds @ 104mph after my modifications. Fastest I’ve ever gone was 152mph, video recorded at the track.
Costs: Under $1000 in mods. The MSRP of my GT is $62,945. I lease it for about $540 a month
What’s Next (Next car, next adventure, etc.)?: Most likely an X3M or a new 540i.
