One of the most striking colors for the BMW i8 is – Protonic Blue is, for now, removed from the online configurator. The eye-catching blue was the launch color for the i8 at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2013 and has been one of fans’ favorites paint jobs for the progressive hybrid. When BMW launched the i8 in 2014, customers had the option to choose between four exterior colors: Ionic Silver, Protonic Blue, Crystal White and Sophisto Grey. The currently available color choices for the plug-in hybrid thus shrunk to only three variants.
Although there is currently no evidence of the expansion of the color palette for the BMW i8, the company continues to offer special paint jobs for limited models. For example, Protonic Red was offered this year on a limited edition i8 and it’s followed by the BMW i8 Dark Silver Edition to be unveiled in Paris at the of this month.
In the UK, customers have more choices. BMW UK will be the first to offer BMW Individual colors for the BMW i8 hybrid sportscar. BMW’s new Individual color collection will be priced upwards of £5,495 in this UK where it will include Java Green, Speed Yellow, Solar Orange, Twilight Purple Pearl, Frozen Grey, Frozen Black, San Marino Blue and Grigio Telesto Pearl, among others.
We’ve reached out to BMW to confirm if the omission of Protonic Blue is temporarily or whether the beautiful color will return in the future.
