As the BMW M2 promises to be a cheaper alternative to the BMW M4, but offers you just as much adrenaline, customers wanting one will probably be looking for a great deal. Starting at $51,700, the M2 is a tantalizing offer today. Will that still be true if you want to tune it, though? Well, the answer is quite complex but if you know where to look, yes.

The guys from Speed-Busters in Germany are the latest to bring out a piggyback tune for the tried and tested N55 engine. The tuner just unveiled a chip tuning option that will take the output over what the BMW M4 has to offer. According to them, their tests revealed that when using their solution, the M2 can develop up to 426 HP and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque. Let’s take a closer look at those numbers.

The S55 3-liter twin-turbo engine developed by the M division makes 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. That’s will all sorts of innovations and protections in place to keep things nice and running for a long time. The M2, if fitted with the Speed-Busters upgrade, has more torque and only slightly less power. Chip in the less weight it has to carry around, and it becomes a truly menacing car.

As for the costs, the guys in Germany are only asking €799 for this upgrade which is roughly $895 at today’s exchange rate. For this money you also get a top speed limiter removal (granting speeds up to 180 mph) as well as a two-year warranty for the engine. If that’s not a lot of bang for your buck, I don’t know what is.
