When BMW introduced the new BMW X5 M and X6 M models it also brought forward the most powerful engine for a production car they had ever made. In the meantime, the M760Li xDrive model came out and took over but the two M SUVs are still terrible bruisers on the road. That being said, you can go even further with some tuning, as the guys from BR-Performance are promising.
In a short video published on their Youtube channel, they are showcasing some of their latest tuning kits for the X5 M. In Stage 1 guise, thanks to a new ECU map, the S63 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine can be taken up from the standard 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque up to 680 HP and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. This is most likely their most popular kit as it doesn’t require any hardware changes.
Go for the Stage 2 upgrade though and you’ll find even more power can be squeezed out from under the hood. By using new catbacks and catless downpipes, the guys manage to improve the air flow through the exhaust and raise the figures even higher. Therefore, the X5 M can be had with 720 HP and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, numbers good enough to turn it into a supercar thanks to its all-wheel drive system.
Furthermore, by changing the exhaust, the car also sounds quite different right now, with a meaner and louder growl than the standard model, as you can hear in the video posted below. The guys are even offering optional features for your own customizing pleasures, being able to shut down the automatic Start/Stop function as well as including a switch inside the cabin that allows you to choose which engine map to use at the flick of a button. The exhaust sound can also be controlled remotely, allowing you to either go fully mental or chilled as a monk, depending on your mood.
