Another beauty on the Pebble Beach lawn was a 1960 BMW 3200 S Cabriolet Sedan. Built on the BMW 502 chassis by the Darmstadt-based coachbuilder Autenrieth, the 3200 S is the only BMW to this date carrying the “cabriolet sedan” badge name. Designed by Albrecht von Goertz as a luxury sports car, the new 503 was considered the successor of the 502 model and came with a choice of two body styles – coupe and convertible.
Powered by a 3.2-liter V8 engine producing 140 hp, the 3200 S / 502 was one of the most exclusive BMWs of the time. Acceleration of the 503 from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) had been measured at 13 seconds; the top speed of the 503 is about 115 miles per hour (185 km/h).
Featuring a purple and being combination, this 3200 S displayed during the Concours d’Elegance belongs to Peter Wiesner and has been out of sight for a long time.
