BMW 8 Series rendering takes cues from the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe

The news of the week in the BMW world have certainly revolved around rebirth of the iconic BMW 8 Series. BMW has been playing with a new ultraluxury car since the Concept CS debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2007, but it shelved plans to focus on the BMW i sub-division. Now under the leadership of Harald Krueger, work has resumed.

Sources close to BMWBLOG say the 8 Series will feature two variants: a large, very luxurious coupe and a stylish convertible, both to compete with the Mercedes-Benz Maybach and S-Class Coupe. The design details are unknown to those outside the company at the moment, but rendering artists are starting to piece bits of information together to render the future 8 Series.

Take for example this rendering which uses as base the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe with some design cues inherited from the Vision Future Luxury Concept. The image shows a sleek design with a slopping roofline and a massive front-end that screams of luxury and sportiness.

Just like the Vision Future Luxury Concept stands for a forward- looking fusion of exclusivity and innovation, and for a driving experience that is at once emotional and exclusive, the 8 Series would follow these steps and likely improve upon them. Engineering feats like organic and laser lights, autonomous driving features and advanced user interfaces are part of the 8 Series story as well, while the driving dynamics would not be ignored as well.

Allegedly built on a similar lightweight platform as the new 7 Series, the new BMW flagship model will stay true to the BMW DNA and offer its occupants the sporty drive they expect from BMW.
