Ever since the new BMW Z4 was introduced, the BMW community, and not only, has often brought Korean-car maker Kia into the conversation. Even Motor Trend compared the new kidneys to the Kia Stinger’s look, which wasn’t meant to be a compliment to BMW’s design.
Now the folks at X-Tomi Design takes this a step further and put together a photoshop of the new Z4 Roadster with Kia Stringer’s headlights and kidney grille, and a combination of the Z4’s lower bumper and Stinger’s.
It’s fair to say that there are some similarities, especially around the kidney grille’s size, but it’s a long stretch to say that BMW designers took any inspiration from Kia’s design. In our several conversations with BMW designers, this topic has often came up, but it was almost insulting to them to think that they would look at anyone for inspiration.
Regardless, this rendering is a fun exercise, in the holiday spirit and we always appreciate the good laughs provided by rendering artists.
The new BMW Z4 is expected to hit the showrooms around the world in the Spring of 2019 but until then, you can already order one if you want to, just by visiting your local dealer or by going online. In the US, customers are limited to just two choices: the sDrive30i and the M40i model.
The former is bound to be considerably cheaper. Rightfully so too, as the sDrive30i will come with two less cylinders, a lot less power and less standard kit. As it turns out, the sDrive30i model will kick off at $49,700 without the $995 destination and handling tax. Add it all up and you get a price tag of $50,695 for the 255 HP open top 2-seater.
