We all love fast cars. It seems as if the faster they go, the more we love them. But then again, you also need the infrastructure to be able to reach the maximum velocity in them and, unless you live on the Nurburgring, chances are you’ll rarely get to fully enjoy eye-watering speeds. Of course, there’s also one exception of unlimited Autobahns and that’s exactly where this Alpina B5 BiTurbo was filmed.
In the video below you’ll get to see a luxurious, heavy, mid-size sedan doing things that should only be reserved for proper supercars. Reaching 200 mph (320 km/h) used to be a goal reserved for companies like Lamborghini or Ferrari but it would appear as if a regular BMW 5 Series can also do it. Of course, with the help of Alpina. Their B5 BiTurbo Edition 50 model comes with a couple of well-designed upgrades that enhance the stock 4.4-liter V8 engine found on the 550i model.
After the tuner/manufacturer is done with the car, it will put down 600 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, allowing it to show such high speeds on the instrument cluster. Mind you, the car’s speedometer was showing 335 km/h (208 mph) while the GPS reader was showing 320 km/h (200 mph), quite a big difference to be honest. Even so, the car is definitely capable of the claims its manufacturer is making.
The Edition 50 version also comes with all sorts of unique combinations and plaques to mark its bespoke character. Only 50 of them have been made in Sedan guise and 50 more in the shape of a Touring model. No matter what you’d go for though, the acceleration is just as incredible, the cars reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in just 4.2 seconds in rear-wheel drive guise and 4 seconds flat with all-wheel drive that is, by the way, available.
