Touring models have fascinated a certain part of the BMW fan base ever since the first such model with the blue and white roundel on the hood came out. However, not all cars made by BMW were available in this guise and that’s especially true for M models. Because of that, some enthusiasts decided to take matters into their own hands and that’s how we ended up with Frankensteinian creations such as this particular BMW E30 M3 Touring that’s up for grabs.
The car is listed on Craigslist and has an asking price of no less than $65,000. Now that we got this little bump out of the way, let’s see why the seller located in Austin, Texas is asking so much. After all, this is not an officially built BMW, but a contraption that looked to cater to some of the owner’s needs. These included the need for speed, need for E30 M3 looks and probably need for space.
The E30 M3 was never offered as a Touring model. As a matter of fact, even though all the 3 Series generations have included a Touring version, none of them was ever offered with the letter M on the tailgate. BMW always claimed that was because the dynamics of the car would be ruined and also because few people would actually buy them. The number of people changing regular 3 Series models into M3s might point otherwise but let’s not digress.
The car shown here started life as a regular 3 Series Touring model but received a couple of well-placed upgrades here and there. The front and rear fenders were flared while under the hood an S54 3.2-liter straight six from the E46 M3 was installed along with a proper manual 6-speed gearbox. The brakes came from a Z3 M Roadster while the suspension was also borrowed from a true E30 M3 model. All in all, this thing has over 300 HP to light up the rear tires with and will make someone really happy if an E30 M3 wagon was his or her childhood dream.
