Third-Gen F95 BMW X5 M will arrive in 2020

BMW’s latest and greatest X5 model will be unveiled in 2018 after its predecessor’s production cycle is being cut by two years. Instead of the usual seven year model cycle, the new G05 X5 will arrive earlier than planned to the market to compete in a very competitive market.

As with the previous two X5 M generations – E70 X5 M (2010–13) and F85 X5 M (2015–) – the new F95 X5 M builds atop the platform of the new X5 which now promises to have lost weight and provide greater driving dynamics. The new X5 will be based on the new CLAR platform, a modular architecture that will considerably reduce the final weight of all models thanks to the use of lightweight materials such as aluminum or CFRP, a compound that will be used for certain elements and reinforcements of the frame.

With a better platform to work with, the M engineers in Garching are likely to deliver a far more compelling power SUV, with a lot more power and improved driving dynamics. Under the hood, the F95 X5 M will use BMW’s 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine which will deliver at least 600 hp on the nose and 553 lb-ft of torque. All of that fury is sent through an eight-speed ZF-sourced automatic which is specifically tuned for X5 M duty.

BMW will introduce the new F95 X5 M in late 2019 before arriving on the market in 2020.
