The most anticipated launch of this Fall and, possibly, this year’s Paris Motor Show is, without a doubt, the G20 3 Series. The new 3 Series will be unveiled next week aiming to regain the top spot in its segment, a spot heavily contested today. To tease us even more, the German BMW website is now showing us a blacked out silhouette of the new 3er in its configurator, telling us that the wait is almost over.
The new 3 Series will bring a lot of new tech to the segment as well as new driving dynamics. The car will introduce new chassis and driving experience settings, a brand new interior on par with the most recent models in the range and new driver assistance systems. At launch, the line-up will be made up of the familiar 2 and 3-liter mills in both diesel and petrol guise.
From the 320i to the 330i and from the 320d to the 330d we’ll get just a small teaser of what awaits for us in the future. Don’t expect any surprises here, as the mills will be part of the modular B-series family tree. The 320i and 330i will be using B48 engines most likely while the 320d will use the same B47 mill, joined by the B57 on the 330d. The most anticipated model, apart from the new M3, will be the brand new M340i xDrive.
While the engine under the hood won’t be brand new but a revised version of the B58 mill already found on the 340i model, there are M Performance specific bits at play on the M340i which are supposed to give it the edge when taking on its rivals. These include a new differential for the rear axle which will come as standard on the car, bound to arrive in the summer of 2019.
Of course, all cars will also get the lift-related dampers announced a while back by BMW, which we can’t wait to put to the test.
