Video: Jorg Muller Sets New Record with AC Schnitzer BMW F90 M5

The guys from AC Schnitzer have a thing for breaking records. They are masters at tuning BMWs and yet that’s not nearly enough. For the German engineers working at AC Schnitzer, their skills need to translate into real-world applications and what better way to prove you have the best tuning kit for a car if not by taking it to the track and breaking a record or two? This time, we’re looking at their upgraded F90 M5 at the hands of the legendary Jorg Muller.

Jorg used to race in a variety of motorsport events. As a kid I used to watch him in DTM but his resume includes wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, at the Spa-Francorchamps and the 24 hours of Nurburgring as well. Therefore, the AC Schnitzer people knew who to pick, to make sure their BMW M5 was used to the absolute limit, pushed as far as it could be pushed to get the most out of it.

The AC Schnitzer M5 comes with a couple of improvements over its standard brother. The engine was upgraded, first and foremost, from 600 HP and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque to 700 HP and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, a noticeable increase in output, to be fair. The suspension was upgraded as well, with lower springs being installed, while new tires and wheels were added to the mix, to reduce the unsprung weight. Last but not least, a new exhaust was added along with some aerodynamic tweaks.

In the end, Muller posted a lap time of 7:29.5 which makes this the fastest M5 ever to go around the Nurburgring. Furthermore, to put things into perspective a little better, the M5 is faster than the Mercedes AMG GT-S and the BMW M4 GTS. Considering the weight and the size of the M5, that’s an incredible performance.
