When BMW announced the Competition Package for the M3 and M4 models, the world rushed to argue that this what the two brothers should have been from the get-go. And to be fair, the difference between the standard M3/M4 and their Competition counterparts is considerably larger than what the price tags might suggest, offering you a lot more bang for the buck if you choose the Competition Pack over the standard models.
In pure performance figures numbers, the two don’t seem that far apart though and, unfortunately, that’s what most people are interested in. At a first glance, the Competition Pack only brings some 19 extra HP to the table, not nearly enough by some standards. Raising the total output to 444 HP is an improvement big enough to shave 0.1 seconds off the 0-60 time, not that anyone would really notice it anyhow, in case you do manage to perform a perfect launch.
The video below shows us exactly how much of a power and torque difference there is between them. Blake takes his own BMW M4 and a BMW M3 Competition Pack to a dyno jet to compare the two and see how they match up. Initially, they seem basically identical in terms of output, with the M3 putting out a bit more grunt but in the end, after doing a couple of runs, the Competition Pack model shows some 16 extra horses at the wheels.

To be more precise, the M4 showed, on average, 386 HP and 406 lb-ft of torque exactly at the wheels. On the other hand, the M3 Competition Pack showed, at most, 402 HP and 414 lb-ft of torque, also at the wheels. We also need to point out that the dyno used was a Mustang, which is known to show lower figures than what other dynos show. No matter what the numbers say though, the Competition Pack brings more to the table than just some extra ponies, the real magic hiding in the suspension setup.
