Video: BMW M4 Drag Races Nissan GT-R on Proper Drag Strip

We’ve seen quite a few videos up until now since the BMW M4 was launched, showing the sports coupe drag racing one car or another. The biggest problem I personally have with these videos is that most of the time they are done on public roads, where nobody is safe. Drag racing is awesome and I love it too but when it comes to the safety of those around us, I’d gladly pass the chance to race someone rather than risk getting into an accident and possibly hurting someone in the process.

That’s probably one of the reasons why I found this proper drag race quite interesting to watch. Normally, a BMW M4 wouldn’t really stand a chance against a car like the Nissan GT-R. There’s a reason why the Japanese car is nicknamed Godzilla and it has nothing to do with where it’s manufactured. Instead it has a lot more to do with its dominance of everything else on the drag strip, as Nissan managed to make the GT-R the ultimate king of drag races.

Its all-wheel drive and engine/transmission combo are to praise for such a performance, the GT-R being one of the fastest cars to 60 mph from standstill in the world even today, despite the fact that it arrived into the world over 10 years ago. Of course, the GT-R got a couple of revamps over time, which improved not only the HP readings but also the 0-60 times. However, even the original R35 was considerably quicker than the M4, being quoted at 3.5 seconds.

The latest iteration of the GT-R has 565 PS and will do the same sprint in a claimed 2.8 seconds, more than a full second faster than the BMW M4. However, the race you’re about to see shows the two being a lot closer than what the numbers might say and we can only praise the driver of the BMW for being able to put down the power so well, despite the M4 being RWD and having a tendency to spin off normally.
