Video: BMW M3 vs Alfa Giulia QV and C63 AMG S Sound and Acceleration Comparison

While we’re patiently waiting for Audi to be done with its research and development of its new RS5, which is the usual rival of cars such as the BMW M3 – or M4 these days – and the Mercedes-AMG C63, there’s a new kid on the block making waves. We’re talking, of course, about the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV.

Since it was launched, the Italian sports car received glowing reviews, many rushing to call it even better than the benchmark for the last 30 years, the BMW M3. However, some still argue that the Competition Package version of the Bavarian machine has the edge in terms of handling and driving experience. Let’s just say that some things are still up for debate and that it’s more of a personal choice since the two are so closely matched.

The video below focuses on other aspects of the three cars though, starting with how they sound. The comparison is especially interesting since we’re dealing with three totally different engine architectures. The Alfa uses a Ferrari-sourced twin-turbo V6, the BMW M3 has a traditional straight six engine while the Mercedes uses a V8 developed by the AMG division.

Up next comes the acceleration test and this is where the M3 would apparently be disadvantaged as it is the least powerful car out there with 444 hp. Both of its rivals here have over 500 hp but as we all know, it’s not all about power figures but also about how you manage to put it down and the BMW manages to keep up.

It all seems too close to call and with the Audi RS5 soon to be unveiled, things are only going to get trickier. That’s because the new performance model from Ingolstadt will be coming with a 444 hp twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 ‘borrowed’ from the new Porsche Panamera 4S. Chip in 443 lb-ft of torque and an all-wheel drive system and you get another worthy adversary to up against the M3 and its M4 Coupe brother. Things are definitely heating up in this segment.
