In just a few weeks, BMW will unveil their first X2 SAV. The sporty compact truck will launch in September at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, followed by a market launch in 2017.
BMW’s X2 will be built on the X1 front-wheel drive platform and will follow the example of the larger X4 and X6 in receiving a uniquely styled steel body. It will feature a five-door layout, with its tailgate set at a more extreme angle than that of the more practical X1 to give it a coupe-like silhouette.
The X2 will separate itself from the X1 by having a higher rear belt line and smaller rear window as well as a more aggressively swept roofline. The interior is expected to be largely shared with the new X1.
While BMW’s new 3 and 4-cylinder engines will be making up the entire range, the X2 will also be getting a high-performance B48 unit for an M Performance model. Whether the name will be M35i or something else, we can’t confirm right now but the power output of the 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged mill will go up to over 320 HP.
Price-wise, the X2 will be closer to the X3 than the X1. It will also have great, premium materials inside the cabin and will offer a lot of customization possibilities for the customers.
