Naas' Conor O'Rourke continued his warm-up for the Alps Tour season with an encouraging runner-up finish in the Mediterranean Tour's Allegria Classic in Egypt.

The former St Andrews Links Trophy winner (26) made an eagle, six birdies, one bogey and a double bogey in a closing, five-under-par 67 at Allegria Golf Club in Cairo to finish two shots behind Spain's Noel Grau on six-under par.

Castleknock's David Carey was 22nd on nine over with The Island's Kevin Le Blanc a shot further back in 24th and Woodbrook's Colm Crowley tied for 30th.

All four will contest the Mediterranean Tour's Palm Hill Championship this weekend before O'Rourke, Carey and Le Blanc tee it up in the opening two Alps Tour events of the year at Sokhna Golf Club on the Gulf of Suez coast.

They will be joined by Justin Brink and Galgorm Castle amateur Michael Dallat for the Ein Bay Open (February 13-15) and the Red Sea Little Venice Open (February 19-21).
