BMW 850Ci Formerly Owned by George Carlin Is Up for Grabs

With the BMW 8 Series making a comeback this year, the original is also seemingly making a similar return to shape, as it comes back into focus. Back in the 1990s, the 8 Series was regarded as a sort of ultimate luxury from Germany, especially since the cars were predominantly fitted with V12 engines. Another thing that was very popular back then was stand-up comedy and there’s nobody like George Carlin when it comes to stand-up. What do the two have to do with each other, you may ask, and the answer is portrayed in the pictures below.

It turns out Carlin was a BMW fan after all and the car shown here used to belong to him. At least that’s what Bring a Trailer claims and we’re going with it, especially considering the ‘Phunny’ license plates. Furthermore, the 8 Series used to cost an arm and a leg back then and I’m pretty sure comedians of Carlin’s caliber could afford one, including the maintenance, which is said to be quite expensive.

As for the car itself, it’s a 1996 model and, as you can see, comes with aftermarket wheels which remind me of the 1990s perfectly. It also has 79,319 miles on the odometer which means it was driven quite a lot and that’s not good news. That’s because Carlin used to brag about how bad of a driver he is all the time during his shows.

The ad also specifies that the car was driven by Carlin alone up until his death in 2008 and that over the last 10 years, his daughter put the last 11,000 miles on the clock. Therefore, this is not exactly a garage queen and the car shows it. It’s in good condition but I wouldn’t call it pristine. Nevertheless, the price tag at the time of writing reached $17,000 which, considering the prices asked for other 850Ci models, not owned by Carlin, is more than fair.
