The new BMW M5 is being delivered around the world to anxious owners right now and while that’s happening, the media is still having a field day reviewing the new king of the uber-sedan niche. In the video below we get to see Joe Achilles take a turn behind its wheel and while Joe isn’t exactly a member of the mass media, he does have quite the cult following on Youtube, prompting BMW UK to lend him an M5 to drive to the Nurburgring and back again.
As far as we can tell, this whole ordeal happened for the Nurburgring 24-hour race which took place quite a while back. However, when filming reviews, I personally know it takes a while from actual shooting the footage until it gets published because of the amount of time editing takes. Therefore, earlier today, Joe published a part 1 of 2 video showcasing his initial thoughts on the M5, taking us on a tour of the car and comparing it to the F10 model.
The most interesting bit, however, is the footage shot on a couple of unrestricted sectors of the famous German Autobahn highway system. That’s kind-of the Holy Mecca of automotive enthusiasts as there are little to no such unrestricted highways anywhere else in the world. Therefore, these sections with no speed limit are quite popular for a lot of people and most of the time you just end up having to deal with traffic, as Joe found out here.
Nevertheless, at the wheel of a BMW F90 M5, you only need a couple of seconds and a bit of open road ahead of you to reach eye-watering speeds. Apparently Joe wanted to hit 300 km/h (186 mph) with his car but he somehow forgot that if the M5 doesn’t come with the M Driver’s Package, it’s electronically limited to 155 mph or 250 km/h. That’s a speed he easily reached though, as you’re about to see.
