
Daniell McVeigh leads on the Irish women's team in Austria
Ireland's hopes of gold medal glory ended on day one of the European Ladies and European Boys Team Championships.
The women lost 6-1 to No 1 seeds France in their Flight A opener at Murhof in Austria, sharing the foursomes 1-1 thanks to a 19h hole victory for Annabel Wilson and Mairead Martin before the French won all five singles. France now face Denmark in the last four with Italy taking on Sweden.

The Irish Boys team battled hard but lost 4-3 to highly-fancied Sweden on the final green in the Czech Republic.

At the European Amateur Team Championship in Germany, Ireland trounced Serbia 5-0 in Flight B to remain on course for ninth place as Finland defeated No 1 seeds Sweden and joined Germany, Denmark and England in the last four at the Nick Faldo-designed, Sporting Club Berlin.
European Amateur Team Championship
In the European Girls' Team Championship in Sweden, Italy faces the Czech Republic as hosts Sweden meet Spain in the semi-finals.
Ireland lost 4-1 to Scotland in Flight B and meet Wales today.
