Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 1.5 percent in June 2018 for a total of 29,407 compared to 28,962 vehicles sold in June 2017. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is up 2.9 percent on sales of 153,386 vehicles compared to 149,086 sold in the first six months of 2017.
Mercedes-Benz USA today reported June sales of 26,191 Mercedes-Benz models, a decrease of 9.7% from the best-ever June sales reported during the same time period last year at 28,994 vehicles sold.
The increase in June sales has helped BMW narrow Mercedes-Benz’s luxury lead this year to 5,462. The South Carolina-made X5 SUV fell 5.1 percent from a year ago, while the new X3 posed a 50 percent increase.
Lexus slipped for a fourth straight month, falling 2.6 percent to 23,750 in June. Lexus deliveries are up 0.9 percent year-to-date.
Audi has also posted a slight increase at 0.3 percent to 19,471, after growing 0.6 percent in May. The Q5 SUV and the A4 sedan drove sales, which are up 4.8 percent this year.
The biggest sales increase in June comes from Volvo whose sales soared 35 percent, propelled by the top-selling XC90 sport-utility and the XC60 SUV. Volvo managed to increase its U.S. market share through May by 0.15 percent, the biggest gain of any luxury automaker, to 0.54 percent, according to Cox Automotive’s KBB.
Land Rover also had its best ever June last month, selling 6,982 units, a 21 percent jump from 2017.
Alfa Romeo, with its Stelvio crossover, more than doubled sales to 2,249.
