While the 2018 World Cup has not brought any really good news for the German national team – a first loss against Mexico – BMW M Performance uses the football fever for a special design. Using the BMW M2 Competition as a show car, BMW M shows just how much the compact sportsman’s performance can be changed with a little color: red and gold complement the black livery and give the BMW M2 a unique look that has its charm beyond the World Cup.
In addition to the German decals, the BMW M2 Competition also carries a few other tuning components from the BMW M Performance range. Among other things, the bonnet, rear wing and rear diffuser made of carbon were installed, but even more attention should be paid to the wheel combination: The 19-inch Y-spoke 763 M light-alloy wheels are on the front axle in Jet Black while the rear axle features the same wheels in Frozen Gold. Both variants can be ordered regularly at BMW M Performance, and the golden rims have been available for a few months now.
Inside the cabin, the M Performance steering wheel conveys genuine motorsport atmosphere with its striking geometry, the colored 12 o’clock mark and high quality Alcantara in the grip area. In addition, the steering wheel trim, gear selector switch and hand brake handle in open-pored Frozen Carbon form a sporty overall picture. The footrest with M logo and the stainless steel pedal pads complete the cockpit.
The rear is also customized with carbon by installing a M Performance rear spoiler and an M Performance rear diffuser. With its turbocharged 6-cylinder in-line engine, based on the engine of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 and delivering 302 kW / 410 hp, the M2 Competition Coupé accelerates in just 4.4 seconds (4.2-second with the dual-clutch transmission) to a speed of 100 km/h.
Behind the eye-catching wheels, the M sports brake system is clearly recognizable by its red brake calipers and fits perfectly with the black-red-gold look of the show car. Compared to the standard brakes, the perforated and ventilated compound brake discs are even larger. They are clamped on the front axle by 6-piston calipers and at the rear by 4-piston calipers.
