Ever since the BMW M4 CS debuted, fans have been drooling in anticipation for the upcoming BMW M2 CS. The M4 CS seems to be the absolute Goldilocks variant of the M4 lineup. It’s faster and more hardcore than the standard car but also more livable and road-worthy than the psychopathic M4 GTS. So fans are hoping that the M2 CS will bring a similar balance.
If you’re one of those drooling fans, this video should excite, as it shows a pre-production BMW M2 lapping the famed Nurburgring.
Under the hood of the BMW M2 CS will lie a variant of the BMW M4’s S55 engine, rather than the standard M2’s N55 engine. So it will still be a 3.0 liter I6 but will be twin-turbocharged and pack a lot more power.
The standard BMW M2 makes 365 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque and is paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT. The M2 CS will reportedly make around 400 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. It will also shed some weight, with an aluminum roof, lightweight seats and some reduced sound deadening material. We’re not sure if a six-speed manual will be offered (it isn’t on the M4 CS or M4 GTS).
With the seven-speed DCT, the standard M2 is capable of 0-60 mph in as low as 4 seconds flat. This new BMW M2 CS could be capable of under 4 seconds, which is properly quick. Where it should be quickest, though, is through the twisties. Thanks to its lightweight, compact size and nimble chassis, the M2 is already about as fast as the much more powerful M4. So such an M2 CS would be an absolute weapon.
From the outside, we can see those vertical vents in the lower front fascia that we’ve been seeing on M2 CS test mules. We also see that it’s very low, lower even than the standard M2. So it has a very hunkered down, go-fast look. In this video, it also gets its tail out quite easily, so it should still be a hooligan and not a track-focused monster.
