The new BMW 8 Series is without a doubt one of the best looking BMWs in the current lineup. The 8er Coupe was brought back to life last year to play in the luxury coupe segment. Despite being an already good looking car, fans from around the world are still craving a BMW supercar with an exotic design. So this is the idea behind this new rendering by Rain Prisk who took the design cues from the new 8 Series Coupe and paired it with an exterior design that can fit a mid-engine. There are some Ferrari-inspired design cues as well since a BMW supercar would play in the same field.
The front-end gets a BMW shark nose, coupled with an aggressive front bumper and additional carbon fiber splitters. The side view shows a very dynamic silhouette with aggressive lines running across the body and large wheels. The sloping roofline is the icing on the cake making for a very attractive rear end.
Sadly, this is just a design exercise and as far we know, there are no plans for a BMW supercar. Lots of previous projects were in the design phase but approval from the BMW board has yet to arrive.
In the mean time, we can always get behind the wheel of the new 8 Series, either in the coupe or convertible shape, and soon in Gran Coupe. The top model of the new 8 Series family is the M850i xDrive, powered by a newly revised 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. That engine makes 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic, which sends power to a newly revised xDrive all-wheel drive system and a rear-wheel steer system.
According to BMW, the M850i can nail 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, which is right on par with other cars in its segment. For instance, the Aston Martin DB11 V8 takes 3.7 seconds with a bit less power, the Mercedes-AMG GT S takes 3.5 seconds and the W12-powered Bentley Continental GT taking 3.3 seconds.
