Video: Tuned BMW 1M Coupe Takes on 700 HP G63 AMG in Drag Race

One of the most revered cars BMW made in the 21st century is, without a doubt, the BMW 1M Coupe. Its compact size combined with lots of power and torque make it one of the most desirable M cars today, even though it hasn’t been in production for quite some time now. Maybe that’s one of the things that make it even more enticing, as it has been built in limited numbers from the get go but apart from that, the performance delivered by the N54 engine is impressive nonetheless.

The video below shows a tuned model going up for a drag race against a rather unusual rival, a G63 AMG. The SUV has also been tuned, so this comparison is not as outlandish as it may seem. The 1M Coupe apparently has its downpipes changed with catless ones, a new custom exhaust installed, an AFE cold air intake added to the mix as well as an ER chargepipe and a Cobb stage 2 tune. All in all this car should be pushing somewhere close to 500 HP which should give it a fighting chance against the AMG.

The G-Wagon has had its fair share of changes done to it as well. According to the video description is has 700 HP now coming out of its 5.5-liter V8 but there’s no mention as to how that power figure was reached. Nevertheless, considering the size of the engine, a simple ECU tune should be enough to get up to 700 ponies. The problem with the G-Wagon is that it’s truly a box on wheels so the drag resistance will make it slow down in the triple-digit speeds.

Even so, the power difference between the two is huge, as is the weight difference. The 1M is the more agile car, without a doubt, on a track, but what about this particular scenario, on a drag strip? Well, there’s only one way to find out: pres play.
