If you’re watching the Dakar rally you are probably already familiar with the MINI X-Raid teams. They have been winning a number of races for the last few years and will continue to do so in the upcoming edition, kicking off in January. The guys from X-Raid already have a good reputation in the field so if you’re looking to buy a Dakar-capable rally car, the BMW X3 we’re showing you today might just be for you.
Based on a 2007 model, the first generation X3, this is a capable Dakar-compatible rally car, built to be compliant with the most demanding specs. It was first built in 2009 and has been redone a number of times already, according to the sale ad. The last full rebuild was done this summer and, ever since, the car covered only about 100 kilometers (62 miles) for testing purposes. Therefore, the X3 here at hand is basically brand new.
The car comes with a full tubular chassis from Hegemann, while the bodywork is made mainly of carbon and kevlar. The engine is a 3-liter BMW diesel with a twin-scroll turbo that comes with a Motec dash and data logger as well as a GEMS LDS4 color center display. The gearbox is a 6-speed Sadev sequential unit with cut-off shift sensor (up and down) and a triple plate AP Racing clutch. The front and rear differentials are Xtrac Heavy Duty.
The suspension has about 250mm of wheel travel. The front and rear dampers are two Reiger 550 dampers with ICS, RCV, CCV and double pistons, and are basically the same units used on the MINI X-Raid models in the Dakar rally. AP Racing calipers with 320mm x 32mm AP discs with endless pads and liquid-cooled rear calipers take care of stopping you if you get too heated behind the steering wheel.
Of course, an on-board Reiger hydraulic jack system is included as well as AC, a heated windscreen and a 420-liter fuel tank. According to the ad, the car has an asking price of €260,000 ($294,046 at the current exchange rates) and has a valid German registration.
