Leona Maguire fought back from a poor start to card a six-under 66 and storm into contention at the LET’s Lalla Aicha Tour School Pre-Qualifier in Morocco.

Tied 11th overnight, four shots off the lead, the Slieve Russell ambassador was two over after five holes of her second round at Amelkis Golf Club in Marrakesh.

But she soon got motoring and having started at the 10th, she followed bogeys at the 13th and 14th with a birdie four at the 15th and an eagle three at the 18th before storming home in five-under 31.

After birdies at the first and second, she picked up three shots in her last four holes thanks to birdies at the sixth, eighth and ninth.

She finished the day tied for third place with England’s Charlotte Hannah Leathem and Finland’s
Niina Liias on eight-under-par, just two shots behind Austria's Nadine Dreher, who added a 68 to her opening 66 to lead by a shot from Sweden's Linnea Strom on 10-under.

Leona's twin sister added a three-over 75 featuring three birdies to her first round 74 and share 46th on five-over.

She's two strokes outside the top 39 and ties who will advance to the 90-hole Final Stage from December 16-20.
