SPIED: BMW 8 Series Convertible caught without camouflage

Just a few days ago, the BMW 8 Series Convertible was leaked, ahead of its official reveal. Some official photos were leaked out by someone with no real regard for embargo agreements. However, we’re now seeing some spy photos of the new 8er ‘Vert that’s been caught testing completely without camouflage. (We don’t own the photos but see them here)

It seems as if some lucky photographer stumbled upon BMW doing a photoshoot with the 8 Series Convertible, as the car seen in these photos is not only without camo but has a camera car and photographers following it. The car in these photos is also a BMW M850i Convertible, as we can see the badge on the back, but it seems to have different, less exciting wheels than the M850i Coupe we’ve seen before.

This 8 Series Convertible also seems to have been caught at a bad angle. The photographer taking these photos was at a higher vantage point than the car, so the photos sort of make it look fat and frumpy. But in the shots of it from behind, where the angle is a bit more flattering, it looks quite good.

From a lower, more realistic angle, you can tell this is a good looking convertible. Just like the coupe on which it’s based, the 8 Series ‘Vert is low, wide and long, giving it classic sporty GT proportions. I also like the rear end even without the roof. A lot of convertibles can look a bit odd without their coupe counterpart’s roofline, especially at the back. But this new 8er looks quite good and we’re happy to report.

Aside from the lack of fixed roof, the 8 Series Convertible should be mechanically identical to its coupe sibling. So the BMW M850i ‘Vert will be powered by the same 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 as the Coupe, making 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
